Privacy: what Takes holds about people
Takes collects public posts from Reddit, Steam and YouTube and keeps request logs including IP addresses for 14 days. There are no analytics, ads or cookies. If your own words are quoted here, Request removal; we reply within 7 days. Last updated 26 Oct 2026.
If you are only reading
There is no account, sign-in or payment. Takes runs no analytics, tracking or advertising, sets no cookies, and loads no file from any other company’s servers.
Your browser remembers the View options you selected and the last game selected in this tab. The View options are sent with data requests so pages can show the fields you selected. Turning all View options off clears that saved View preference. Your light/dark choice is kept in your browser only; choosing System removes it.
View options have no set expiry: they stay saved until you turn them all off or clear this site’s stored data in your browser. The saved game lasts for the tab session. Your browser’s site-data settings can clear both preferences.
Whatever server sends you a page keeps ordinary request logs, including your IP address. They are kept for 14 days, and Takes does not use them to build a picture of a reader.
What is collected, and from where
The feedback counted here comes only from public posts on Reddit, Steam and YouTube. Request logs, browser preferences and messages you send are described separately on this page.
Takes keeps the whole post as the platform returned it, not only the quoted part, so a later question can be answered without asking the platform again. Posts are kept until their author asks for removal. When stored original text is available, a translated quote can show the full original post.
Takes uses YouTube API Services to collect YouTube comments. Google’s handling of that data is described in the Google Privacy Policy, and YouTube’s own terms are the YouTube Terms of Service.
Names, and what a hash hides
Counts use a salted hash of each account, never the name. The public name is kept separately so a quote can credit its author the way the platform does, such as a Reddit username or a YouTube display name. Steam reviewers are never named. YouTube videos keep their channel name and ID, and quotes keep links to their original posts where available.
A hash hides the name, not the person. Where a source link is available, following it can reveal the author’s name on the source platform. Under European data-protection law, hashed identifiers are pseudonymised personal data, not anonymous data.
Where it is stored, and who reads it
Takes’s data is stored in Germany, on servers rented from Hetzner.
Language models from OpenAI (GPT) and Anthropic (Claude) read each collected post to label its topics and sides. OpenAI and Anthropic are based in the US, so the text of public posts is processed there.
Your rights, and removal
Takes relies on a legitimate interest: showing players what other players said publicly. You can object at any time: Request removal by email with a link to the page you saw your words on, and we stop showing your posts. You do not have to explain why, and a link is enough.
We reply within 7 days and remove quoted words within 7 days of a request. Deleting a post where you wrote it does not remove it here automatically, so please send a request as well. What removal covers is on About.
For a removed post, Takes clears its stored title, original text, translations, source link and collected platform payload. Associated topic readings are deleted, removing the post from counts. References from other records are removed, and the removal process checks for remaining copies of the words.
The post’s record and salted account identifier can remain, along with separate Reddit or YouTube records of public names. Removal keeps a record of the source post identifier, the supplied link, the removal date and reason, and text fingerprints instead of a copy of your words. These keep the post from being collected again. To remove all posts from a source account and block future collection of that account, ask for account removal in the same email.
Backups can retain earlier copies. The removal record is reapplied when a backup is restored. Removing a post from Takes does not delete it on Reddit, Steam or YouTube.
You can also ask what is stored about a post you wrote, and you can complain to your data-protection authority if you think Takes handles your data wrongly.
