We compare the same number of days just before and just after an update, on one measure: the positive share, meaning how many of the players who took a side were positive. A higher share does not mean fewer negative players, and a difference is not a change of mind. Mostly different players post before and after, and the update is not shown to have caused any difference.
Enough players: at least 30 took a side in each period, or we do not compare.
Big enough: the two positive shares are at least 5 percentage points apart.
Clear enough: the difference passes a standard statistical check.
Too few to compare: a topic where fewer than 30 players took a side in either period.
The side is our reading of each player’s words. A player is one Reddit, Steam or YouTube account, so one person with two accounts counts twice.
